Calendar

One of the most important things you will need is a calendar. I used a desk calendar and hung it on the wall withCommand Picture Hanging Strips but this calendar also comes with holes in the top seem which can be for hanging purposes if you prefer to use nails, hooks, screws or even a pretty ribbon would look nice.

I really like this calendar for a few reasons:

1. Each day has a large writable space
2. There is a year at a glance calendar at the bottom which makes it easy to see which dates fall on what days and vice versa
3. It shows one month at a time but I still have easy access to the entire year by simple flipping a page
4. It keeps the corners nice and tidy with corner pockets

​Tips:

• Use a different color pen for each person in the family. Everyone will easily see what they have planned each day. 
• Hangs easily with Command Picture Hanging Strips.

Message Board

Dont get just any kind of whiteboard - get a magnetic one. Or even get more than one. We used two 11 x 17 magnetic dry erase boards and two 8.5 x 11 dry erase magnetic boards to create the look above. They are versatile and can be used for so many things. You can easily write colorful messages, use apaper list tablet with a magnetic backing to it make easy to tear off the shopping lists, and add a magnetic utility cup to store pens and keep track of the needed pens.

Tips:

• ​The magnetic utilty cup is not only a great place to store pens but extra chore cards too! They fit perfectly in this stype cup and has a section large enough for a deck of cards and smaller section perfect for pens.
• There is never enough room on a message board which is why this layout has four! It also helps to divide out the space you can easily each board a specific function such as family notes, daily reminders, shopping lists, even a behavioral chart.

Behavior Chart 

Many schools and families use simple behavior charts. They work by moving a child's magnet (or clips) up for good behavior and down for poor behavior.  
​

1. At the beginning of each day every child starts out at READY FOR THE DAY. Kiddos start with a fresh start every day.
2. As they see their magnets (or clips) move up or down the chart they are reminded that they are in control of their behavior and the choices they make.
3. Kiddos get a chance to change and redirect their behavior throughout the day. 
4. It is easy for everyone to understand.

School Paper Organizer

Add a countertop drawer unit. This is an awesome place to keep your kids school papers organized. When your kids come home from school with a folder full or completed homework just simply have them put in their drawer. This gives you an organized place to keep it until it can be properly gone through. 

Tips:

• This is also an aweome way to keep track of papers that were not supposed to come home yet. Has your child every brought home an assignment that hadn't been checked by the teacher yet and needed to be brought back to school? This is a lifesavor when those times as you will know that it is in their drawer and hadn't been recycled yet. I recommend keeping the most recent couple of weeks assignements in the drawers before recycling.
