Math Activity for 1st and 2nd Graders

Number Sense
​If you have a child that is just starting to learn their 3 digit numbers than this is for you!

This was by far one of the best activities for all my kids when they were just learning the relationship between those 3 digit numbers. 

Each page has the first number filled in for them so they know where to start. Each sheet has random numbers already filled in to give them a guide and reassurance that they are on the right track.

What they will learn...
​Number relationships and patterns (ie. numbers in this row start with a 2 numbers in this column end in an 8 etc.).

What you'll need...

• Paper Towel Roll
• Printer and 10 sheets of paper (colored paper adds to the fun but plain white paper works just as well)
• The FREE file below (1000's_chart.pdf)
• Tape

How it works...

1. Download the free file below & print. 10 pages total in one convenient file. 
2. Have your child complete the first page of (1-100).
3. Once the first page is completed attach it with tape to the paper towel roll and roll it up. Continue adding the completed pages to the previous page as your child completes them.

​I recommend that kiddos do one page per week. By pacing it out their brains will have a little time in between to let those pattern and number relationships sink in and be reinforced each week until complete. 

Tips...
For some added enthusiasm consider rewarding your child for each completed page. If you use our award winning NEATLINGS Chore Chart System then you could reward your child one ticket for the first page, two tickets for the second page, three tickets for the 3rd page and so on... by the time they are done they will have earned 55 tickets!

​Best of all they will feel a huge sense of pride and accomplishment! This is the feeling that will keep them coming back for more :) ​

Giving Credit - Activity inspired by my kiddos 2nd grade teachers!
This is not my original idea. This is an activity that the amazing 2nd grade teachers at my children's school use in their classrooms. It is a "filler" activity for the kiddos, so when they are done with their other work and have a little time they can pull this out and work on it.
